Privacy Policy

Effective October 10, 2026

Velqro is built so the business cards you collect stay on your phone. You do not need an account, and the text on your cards is read on the device. This policy explains what Velqro stores, the few cases where data leaves your phone, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Velqro is published by Ember Development Studios, LLC (“Ember”, “we”, “us”). This policy covers the Velqro app for iPhone and Android and this website, velqro.app. Contact us at support@emberdevstudios.com.

Summary

  • Velqro works without an account. Your cards, card photos and notes are stored on your phone.
  • Text recognition runs on your phone. Card photos are never uploaded to be read.
  • Velqro never reads your address book and does not ask for contacts permission.
  • Cloud backup is optional and part of Velqro Pro. If you sign in and turn it on, your cards and profile are kept in a private backup that only your account can read.
  • No ads, no analytics tools, no tracking across apps or websites, and we never sell your data.
  • You can delete your account and everything in the backup at any time, in the app or by email (see Delete your account).

Data on your device

Everything you save in Velqro is stored in the app’s private storage on your phone: the details on each card (names, job titles, companies, phone numbers, email addresses, websites, addresses), your notes and meeting context, favorites, industries and tags, the photos of each card, and your own profile and business card if you add them. Other apps cannot read this storage. It stays on your phone until you delete it or uninstall Velqro.

If your phone backs up apps to iCloud or Google, that system backup may include Velqro’s data. Those backups are run by Apple or Google under your settings with them, not by us.

Card scanning and text recognition

When you scan a card, Velqro reads its text on your phone: with Apple’s Vision framework on iPhone and with Google ML Kit’s on-device text recognition model on Android. Card photos are never sent to us or to anyone else to be read. You review and can edit every field before a card is saved.

Contacts

Velqro does not read your address book and does not request contacts permission. When you tap Add to Contacts, Velqro opens your phone’s own new-contact form, filled in with that card’s details. Nothing is saved to your contacts unless you choose to save it in that form.

Camera and photos

Velqro asks for the camera so you can photograph business cards. It uses your photo library only when you choose a photo to import, and only reads the photo you pick. You can change either permission at any time in your phone’s settings.

Optional account and cloud backup

You only need an account for cloud backup, which is part of Velqro Pro. When you are signed in with Velqro Pro, Velqro keeps a private backup that only your account can read, and keeps it in sync across the phones you sign in on. The backup holds:

  • The fields of each card: names, job titles, companies, phone numbers, email addresses, websites, addresses, and your notes and meeting context.
  • Your favorites, industries and tags.
  • Smaller copies of your card photos (about 200 KB per side).
  • Your profile: your display name, your own business card details, your profile photo and the photo of your card.
  • Your account’s email address.

An account can keep up to 2,000 cards in the backup. If you are not signed in, or do not have Velqro Pro, nothing is backed up and your cards stay only on your phone.

Sign-in methods

You can sign in with:

  • Sign in with Apple (on iPhone). Apple shares your name and email address, or a private relay address if you choose “Hide My Email”.
  • Google. Google shares your name and email address.
  • Email. We email you a 6-digit code or a sign-in link. Your email address is stored with your account.

We use your email address to sign you in and to answer you if you contact us. We do not send marketing email.

Subscriptions and payments

Velqro Pro is sold through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play (Google). They process your payment; Velqro and Ember never see your card or payment details. We use RevenueCat to keep track of whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an app user ID (your account ID when you are signed in, otherwise a random anonymous ID) and the purchase receipts and subscription status from the store. It does not receive your cards.

Service providers

We use these providers to run Velqro. Each processes data only to provide its service to us:

  • Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage for accounts and cloud backup, hosted in the United States (AWS us-east-1).
  • Resend: sends sign-in emails (your 6-digit code or sign-in link).
  • RevenueCat: manages subscription status, as described above.
  • Apple and Google: app distribution, payments, and Sign in with Apple or Google if you use them.
  • Expo (EAS Update): delivers app updates. When the app checks for an update it downloads it from Expo’s servers, which process standard request information such as your IP address to deliver it.

Card text recognition does not use any provider: it runs on your phone.

What we don’t do

  • We do not show ads.
  • We do not use analytics tools or crash-reporting tools in the app.
  • We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and Velqro does not use your device’s advertising identifier.
  • We do not sell your personal information, or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • We do not read your address book.

How long we keep data

  • Data on your phone stays there until you delete it in the app or uninstall Velqro.
  • Your account and cloud backup are kept while your account exists. When you delete a card, the deletion syncs to your other phones. A record of the deleted card, which may still include its details, stays in your backup until you delete your account.
  • When you delete your account, your account and everything in the backup are deleted right away from our database and file storage.
  • Apple, Google and RevenueCat keep purchase records under their own policies. Our hosting providers may keep routine security logs for a limited period.

Deleting your account and data

In the app, open Settings → Cloud backup → Delete account. You can choose to keep your cards on that phone or delete them too. If you no longer have the app, email us. Full steps are on Delete your Velqro account. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription: cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings.

Your choices and rights

Wherever you live, you can:

  • Access and export your data: it is in the app on your phone, and you can export cards as a PDF. You can also ask us for a copy of what is in your account and backup.
  • Correct your data by editing any card or your profile in the app. Changes sync to your backup.
  • Delete your data, in the app or by asking us (see above).
  • Use Velqro without an account, or sign out at any time.
  • Turn off permissions (camera, photos) in your phone’s settings.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the GDPR gives you these rights and also the right to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. We process your account and backup data to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract). If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know, delete and correct your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.

To make a request, email support@emberdevstudios.com from the email address on your account. We will respond within 30 days, and may ask a question to confirm the account is yours.

Children

Velqro is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Security

Data on your phone is kept in the app’s private storage. Your cloud backup travels over encrypted connections and is stored with access rules that let only your account read it; card photos are kept in private storage, not on public links. No system is perfectly secure, so we also keep what we store to what the service needs.

International users

Accounts and cloud backups are stored in the United States. If you use cloud backup from outside the United States, your data is transferred to and processed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change materially affects how we use data you have already given us, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it.
